Who Would’ve Thought? My Unexpected Nutrition Month Journey

July-- a month that always felt like just another ordinary month to me. Nothing special. But this year was different-- very different. Who would have thought that this month, Nutrition Month, would become so memorable to me?

July started off normal for me -- just the typical announcements about upcoming activities. Then one day, our ICT teacher announced that our section would represent the school in the regional NutriJingle. I was amazed, and honestly, I thought it was pretty cool and exciting because a regional contest would be a good opportunity and experience. Suddenly, Nutrition Month didn’t feel so ordinary anymore.

The jingle only allowed 15 members, and I was happy to be one of them. We were excused from our classes to prepare and to shoot the jingle. There were struggles, especially in mastering our song and choreography. Aside from that, we also need to catch up on the activities we missed. But after all the hard work, we successfully finished shooting the jingle and completed the necessary papers needed -- the only thing left was to submit it.

Just when we thought that we were already finished with our jingle, we got called again—this time, we would be competing in the Division NutriJingle contest with a live performance! So we continued to master our jingle. Our coach also revealed that they had submitted our jingle to the national contest, and we were very shocked and happy—who wouldn’t be? We got to compete at a national level!

On the same day as our practice, there was also a food feast where each section per grade level sold nutritious goods. Our class joined in and sold spring rolls, tuna mayo sandwiches, cascaron, and cookies. It was very fun persuading people to buy—the event was filled with teamwork, and of course, with laughter. We were very proud that we managed to sell everything.

The day of the division contest came. We arrived at school earlier than usual to prepare and have one last practice. We were the first to arrive and the second to perform. During our performance, I felt a little nervous, but I just enjoyed it. Then the results came. When third place was announced—and it wasn’t us—we got more nervous because there were only three groups. Then second place was called, and still not us. Out of joy, we started jumping and shouting, because that meant we won!! The next day, our coach texted us that we won 3rd place in the national contest, and we were all so happy-- our classmates and even our
teachers and honestly, I myself is still in disbelief.

This Nutrition Month was one of the most memorable and unforgettable experiences I’ve had. I’m really thankful to our coach and teachers for always supporting and helping us in every step.
