The Pieces That Shape Me: Formed by Hobbies, Pages, Peace, and Empathy

          My name is Athena Rane I. Reburon, and I'm currently in Grade 10 under the Special Science Program in Ilocos Sur National High School. I'm 15 years old and I live with my parents and my older sister, whom I’m very thankful for. I enjoy exploring and learning new things, especially those that spark my creativity and challenge my knowledge. Being part of this program motivates me to do my best while trying to balance my academics with the hobbies I love. 

        Books—others might find them boring, but for me, they are one of the things I truly love. Fantasy and mystery thrillers are my favorite genres, because they allow me to dive into different worlds and experience exciting, unpredictable adventures. As the saying goes, "A person who doesn't read lives only once, while a reader lives many lives." Whether it's exploring a magical realm or investigating a gripping crime story, I always find myself captivated by the twists and turns. Reading not only entertains me but also gives me a short vacation out of reality. 

        Aside from reading, I also spend my time painting, cooking, and crocheting. As someone who isn't very vocal, these hobbies allow me to express myself in different ways—painting let's me pour my thoughts and emotions into color, cooking for my family feels like a heartfelt gift that fills our home with warmth and delicious scents, and crocheting helps me relax while creating something both beautiful and useful that fits my personal preference. I also have a deep love for animals. Whether I’m watching videos, seeing stray animals, or simply playing with pets, I always feel a strong sense of empathy and affection for them.     

        One of my favorite things to do with my family is go on long car rides. There’s something comforting about being on the road with the people I love—sharing music, stories, and snacks as we travel together. I especially treasure those quiet moments when I can drown in my thoughts, watching the scenery roll by. It’s during those times that I’m reminded of how grateful I am to have a supportive and loving family. All of this shapes who I am. My interests, passions, and relationships combines to form the person I’m still becoming.

1st Quarter: Learning Through Lessons and Problems

            T his quarter was full of ups and downs. I learned a lot — not just from academic lessons, but also through personal experiences that helped me become better at handling challenges.           I n ICT, I discovered so much about the history of something we really love and use every day — the internet. It was really interesting to learn how it all started, from the launch of Sputnik and how it was first intended for military use, to how it eventually became accessible to almost everyone around the world.
